The Coalition teamed with the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency to apply and receive a Healthy Living grant through the American Medical Association Foundation for a "For Teens By Teens" media campaign.
Teens want to hear from other teens about the risks of prescription drug misuse. Plus, studies show that young people who receive acknowledgement from their community for their accomplishments are less likely to misuse drugs and alcohol.
A poster contest was held, with approximately thirty (30) students in graphic arts/multi-media classes in Hillsdale County high school submitting posters. Teens in the Youth Engaged in Prevention groups at Jonesville and Reading High Schools chose the winners, and the winning posters were displayed on billboards throughout Hillsdale County. Posters and placemats were printed and distributed throughout the community, encouraging community members to monitor, secure and dispose prescription medication properly, and to encourage adults to support the young people in our community.
